Dai Manual, Personal Trainer and Nutritional Expert and Vancouver BC resident contributed the following article in the Vancouver 24 hrs publication last August 11th.
"that for people who are already at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the amount of time spent sitting could be a more important risk factor than the amount of time spent vigorously exercising.”
This is a worthwhile read and a good reminder why we should do it and not just talk about it. A few additional thoughts I have are:
- when he says “standing desk” think “sit-stand” – the ability to sit or stand because standing all day can be as bad as sitting all day,
- and when you’re sitting, make sure you can lower your desk surface to a comfortable height so you are not crunching up your shoulders. Find out where you fit: (https://www.updowndesks.com/pages/ergonomic-assessment-chart)
- don’t miss the importance of an anti-fatigue mat.
